Instant Pot Venison Taco Meat

I have grown to love venison over the past few years, and this instant pot venison taco recipe has become one of my favorite ways to prepare this protein. With the pressure cooker, the taco seasonings infuse into the meat, leaving the venison full of flavor.

This picture shows a close up of the finished venison taco meat after it's taken out of the instant pot. The meat is displayed in a black bowl and is surrounded by avocados and limes. It is topped with cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and guacamole.

Does Venison Taste Gamey?

Venison can have a game-y taste, and it depends on several factors, such as the deer’s diet, the processing techniques, and the mode of preparation.

With our most recent deer, the wild game taste was quite strong. But, I had a freezer full of healthy meat, and I didn’t want to waste it. Since then, I have been trying to create recipes that hide the taste of venison.

This taco meat recipe not only hides the venison taste, it infused the meat with flavor and tenderness. It’s a perfect meal prep staple that you can use to top salads, nachos, tacos, and more.

How to make venison taco meat in the instant pot

This is an easy recipe for you to add venison to your meal plan rotation.

This picture displays the ingredients necessary to cook ground venison in the instant pot.

Instant Pot Venison Taco Ingredients

  • Ground venison — this lean protein will take on all the taco flavors as the instant pot tenderizes and infuses the venison with flavor
  • Oil — I prefer olive oil or avocado oil for this recipe
  • Spices — Taco seasoning spices add the perfect amount of flavor to the venison. You can add the spices separately or you can use a taco seasoning packet
  • Garlic – I use preminced garlic (because it’s easy!), but you could use freshly chopped garlic
  • Onion – The diced onion adds another layer of flavor

The directions

  1. Set the instant pot to sauté and Add the oil to the bottom.
  2. Add the venison and onions. Mix the meat frequently until browned.
  3. Add the spices, garlic, and water. Mix well and scape the bottom of the instant pot to remove any stuck on meat
  4. Close the instant pot and pressure cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Release the pressure, mix again, and serve!
